Kapil Dev heaped massive praise on Rohit Sharma for his leadership and calm nature in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The 1983 World Cup-winning captain drew a contrast between Rohit and Virat Kohli‘s captaincy. Rohit has been leading from the front in the global tournament. India are in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup for the second consecutive time. They will take on England in the second semi-final at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
Rohit has made clever field placements and wicket-taking bowling changes in the matches so far. Despite challenging conditions in New York, India won three games in the group stage. Rohit is India’s leading run-scorer with 191 runs in 6 matches at an average of 38.20 and a strike-rate of 159.17. He amassed 92 runs against Australia to help the Men in Blue reach the semis.
Kapil Dev mentioned that Rohit has united the players as a leader and he doesn’t show unnecessary aggression on the field.
“Rohit doesn’t play like Virat Kohli and he also doesn’t jump around like him. He is aware of his limitations and there is no better player than him,” said Kapil at an ‘ABP Live’ event.
Kapil Dev futher said that the 37-year-old doesn’t play for individual milestones.
“There are big players who care for their records and even their captaincy styles are impacted by their selfishness. Rohit is different because he keep everyone together and happy,” he added.
India were defeated by England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup in 2022. Rohit will look to avenge that painful loss.
